Womenwise celebrates Women in Travel award wins

Committee members recognised in the coveted 2019 Women in Travel awards

On Behalf of Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) and our Womenwise committee, we are extremely proud to announce that Daniella Pittis and Danielle Galloway have both received recognition in the coveted 2019 Women in Travel awards held late last week.

Daniella received the Technology Award for her role as FCTG’s newly appointed Information and Security Officer and Dani, General Manager of our Premium Brands, was awarded Executive Leader of the Year.

Daniella’s appointment and subsequent award win highlights positive movement for FCTG, Womenwise and the IT industry, for many reasons but in particular it is Daniella’s unique approach to what has traditionally been a highly male dominated professional area; an approach that is going to help shift mindsets in an ever evolving sector.

“My biggest challenge has been the obvious one of being the only female in a big crowd of blokes, particularly in the early stages of my career. So, what I have done is to use this to my advantage because rather than trying to join the Boys’ Club, I thought about bringing a different set of qualities and skills to the table – bringing some different thinking into the mix – and this has given me the confidence to lead bravely and on my own terms”
Daniella Pittis

Across the globe it is heartening that the number of women in IT is growing and at all levels but it still needs work. FCTG is optimistic with talented women like Daniella at the helm, the world of Information and Security is going to receive a new perspective through a female lens.

Dani Galloway was appointed as the head of Premium Brands in April 2018. Her initial project was the strategic development and implementation of the company's Independent Travel Agent model, following the acquisition of the Travel Partners business.

As the company’s core premium brand, Travel Associates has also seen growth in the home user model, increasing by a healthy 56%, which has meant strong opportunities for working mothers returning from maternity leave and the encouragement of job sharing which has enabled women wanting greater flexibility and balance by becoming more independent.

As recognition for her success and business drive, Dani was the first female board member of the Flight Centre group, when she was appointed onto Board of AVMIN and as a Director of the Travel Partners independent agency brand. This was a significant appointment for the company and Danielle’s promotion into these senior positions was clear recognition of her achievements with the group, her strategic contribution and showcases the strength of her leadership.

Danielle currently mentors 10 up and coming female leaders in the company via structured mentoring program, which she’s been doing for 10 years within the business.
