Sue is the VP of Human Resources for FCTG USA. She’s been with our company for 30+ years, starting in 1985. Way back then, she was hired as the SVP of Leisure Operations, having recently graduated from college and returned from 6 months abroad in Spain. She has experienced many facets of the FCTG world, working over the years as a Travel Consultant, a Team Leader and a Recruiter to name a few roles. We asked Sue what drives her to champion the Womenwise cause.
I love that we are a 75% female organization. I want to ensure and encourage as many people as I can to explore opportunities or growth, either horizontal or vertical, to expand, try new things and bring your own unique skills to what we do. We are better through diversity, we need more and different ideas and that stems from diversity of life experience, education, and influences.
I’ll go personal on this one. My godmother, Miriam Williams, was an attorney in NYC before women did such things. She would tell me stories when I was a girl of being “smuggled” into legal meetings through the kitchen since they were often held in male only clubs. She was so smart, so elegant, and from my earliest days helped me see that gender need not be limiting.
Here in the US it would be free education through University level for everyone. I believe that one of the greatest benefits of University education is that it teaches you how to “think” often times by virtue of being introduced to people with different ideas and backgrounds - but also through books, history, philosophy…society as a whole benefits greatly when people want to be informed, want to ask questions, and sometimes really challenge the status quo.
