When I was a little girl, I wished that I was a boy instead – all my favourite movie and cartoon characters were male, and they were the ones always going on the best adventures. Looking back now, I realised what I wanted wasn’t to be a boy, but to do all the things that boys were doing - on TV, in books and in the news. I want all women to realise that they can do whatever they want to do, and stereotypes shouldn’t stop them. I want society to realise that we should not be limiting the activities and interest of children, and instead encourage their passions, regardless of their gender. This extends into the workplace, and in our personal lives too.
May we all live stories that will outlive us.
This is a quote written by a friend of mine, in celebration of her mother’s life and achievements. It resonated so strongly with me, because it encompasses how much it means to me to leave a legacy behind. I also recently lost my grandfather, and this quote reminded me of the stories that he told which continues to live in our hearts even though he is no longer with us.
