Anna loves helping people to figure out their career paths. A nurturing person by nature, this new mother finds it rewarding to help team members achieve their professional and personal goals. As the HR Manager for Asia, Anna is tasked with the recruitment of talented individuals and looking after the welfare of its employees. Even though she is based in the HK office, she interacts with many employees across Asia on a daily basis and we had to ask this HR practitioner:
My favourite philosophy is ownership. This company really is for those that want to take control of their career. I have been very lucky to have leaders that trust me and allowed me to gain exposure, take risks and do things I have never done before – all the time!
Sometimes we think we have to become more like our male counterparts in order to succeed in the corporate world. We should not strive to be like them, instead, we need to reshape our perception of effective leadership and how female leaders can achieve results without feeling the pressure of changing themselves into someone they are not!
In order for this to happen, we need the support of everyone in society. Many of us have been brought up with the idea that women need to be the primary caregiver at home. Thus, I have seen many women in the workforce trying to raise families like full time mothers while trying to manage a leadership role at work without family commitments. It is simply not sustainable!
As more females become high profile leaders, the world will start to change its perception of what leaders should be. This will benefit both genders!
